Major investment sectors included finance and insurance ($45.9 billion); manufacturing ($19.3 billion); holding companies ($11.5 billion); wholesale trade ($8.6 billion); information ($4.6 billion), and professional, scientific, and technical services ($1.7 billion).
Japanese direct investment in the United States reached a cumulative value (historical-cost basis) of $233.1 billion in 2007. Major investment sectors included wholesale trade ($97.8 billion), manufacturing ($80.0 billion), finance and insurance ($17.8 billion), depository institutions ($8.3 billion), real estate and rental and leasing ($6.1 billion), and retail trade ($5.7 billion).
